I recently had the privilege of being involved in a discussion about the difference between a CFO and a controller. Harbour Rock has been offering both outsourced CFO and controller services for several years now, so I wanted to show my expertise. I started talking about the CFO's responsibilities for financing, risk management, forecasting and strategic vision while the Controller was responsible for monthly reporting and accounting issues - all the right buzz words and technical definitions. But a colleague of mine from North Carolina came up with an analogy that has become etched in my brain.
